They need to get rid of the bots...

[:1]Anyone else agree?|||ya its pretty annoying the spam that fills the whole screen, pressing n every few seconds can be tedious.|||Those bots and item selling sites are the part of blizzard to get extra income in this old game. Nobody will get rid of them as they keep this game alive. Put lvl restrictions or passworded games to prevent bots from entering your game.

I have to say that shops dont dupe items or bot them, they somehow have the ability to create items from scratch, with whatever stats possible. This is especially suspicious when you see 15/15 enigmas in the offerlist after a few hours of ladder reset (which is obviously impossible to get as you cant rush to act4-5 hell to drop jah/ber).|||i remapped the clear screen of messages to space bar, helps with clearing spam|||Good luck with that...|||Well why didn't you just say so? Man, I would have taken those bots out day 1 if someone had said something. I thought you guys liked them.|||Quote:

Never seen 15/15 enigmas in trade lists just hours after the ladder reset.

I've also never in my entire D2 time playing D2 seen ANYONE able to back up the claims you're making with proof.

Oh and I guess if I say "Why do Blizzard ban botters and hackers then?" you will say "Because they earn money off of all the people that buy the game again."

As an admin and mod on several smaller D2 forums, I've seen plenty of rage quit posts after a ban wave, and even more QQ from people who've had their CD keys temp banned for 30 days. They never return to the forum.

Item selling sites don't need Blizzard's help. They'll run massive amounts of bots, exploit bugs in the code and use programs not available to the masses.

No I cannot back up that claim, but I bet neither can you.|||I think what he means to say, is that Blizzard will simply ban botters and hackers rather than fix the underlying issues, because those botters and hackers will go out and buy more CD-keys to continue playing. And they are happy to let that continue because they are making bank on a 10+ year old game. If they fixed the actual issues plaguing D2, not only would that cost good R&D money, but provided they did a good enough job to actually drive down the number of botters/hackers, that is less people who will continue to buy CD-keys wave after wave of bans. It makes no business sense for Blizzard to fix this issue.

And as to the other accusation, yes, shops do have access items on a brand new ladder that should not be there. I've happened across several web forums dedicated to hacking D2 (mostly to see what bot tricks I have to contend with as a legit player, and the mindset of the people who use them [trust me, it's immature]) and there are several people who boast knowledge of server hacks that allow them to crash realm servers in such a way as to have items cross over into a new realm, or from non-ladder to ladder. One person even claimed to be able to get open b.net items onto the closed realms (this was back during pre-1.09 though) It's also possible for these people to crash individual games to exploit buffer overflow memory errors to write out "hacked" items for them to pick up.|||Quote:

Blizzard doesn't need to make money off D2. None of the sites are related to Blizzard at all; in fact, if you visit one of them, you're likely to see that they actually specifically state a lack of affiliation with Blizzard.

Also, as a second to what others have said already, I've never seen items like that pop up shortly.|||Well, if Blizzard was controlling the item selling sites, wouldn't they outsource it to a third party rather than put a smudge on their good name? The disclaimer stating lack of affiliation with Blizzard could just be denial by Blizzard, couldn't it?
